I just received the note below from the local Ole Miss Alumni president. If you are interested in UT vanity tags in Alabama, you should locate and call your local representatives...
-------------------------
My name is Charles Clark. I live in Birmingham and I am the current national president of the Ole Miss Alumni Association. At my request, my local representative in the Alabama legislature, Paul DeMarco, has co-sponsored a bill that would amend existing Alabama law such that the state of Alabama would be able sell car tags with logos/insignia of out of state colleges/ universities (with certain minimum commitment levels). Current law prohibits such, whereas our surrounding states allow car tags with out of state college logos.
The bill (HB 550) is out of committee and will likely come up for a floor vote during next week. I am asking that you communicate this to local alumni clubs in Alabama so they can have their members email or call their legislators to encourage them to support HB 550 ASAP as time is of the essence. The Alabama legislature web site lists all of the legislators, their districts, email addresses, phone #s, etc. If we can get this bill passed it will allow us to generate revenue for our respective schools (approx $41 per car tag) and show our school support in an ostensible way!
I hope that you will join us in this effort. I am also contacting the alumni associations of Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Georgia. Thank you.

Since this vote comes up next week, if you're interested contact your representatives now.
