Although Kentucky erased a five-run deficit to tie the game in the sixth, the University of Tennessee baseball team was able to withstand the Wildcat rally and score twice in the eighth on a two-RBI single by junior Josh Liles to even the weekend series with an 8-6 triumph on Saturday afternoon at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Kentucky hit six home runs, accounting for all of its runs, to claim the series opener against the University of Tennessee, 12-8, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium in Knoxville on Friday night. The Volunteers added longballs by juniors P.J. Polk and Matt Duffy, but it was not enough to overcome the Wildcat offensive onslaught.

Currently two games out of the final spot for the SEC Tournament, the University of Tennessee baseball team (22-20, 6-12) will host border-rival Kentucky (23-19, 6-12) in a critical conference series this weekend. ESPNU will broadcast the opener at 5 p.m. on Friday and SportSouth will cover the final two games at 4 p.m. on Saturday and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
